I grew up in Indiana, known for its cornfields and basketball. My mom Shirley, was a teacher and my dad Richard, was the athletic director at my high school. I have an older brother Dave, who excelled in several sports.
I loved school! My favorite subjects were English, Music, and Gym. I loved reading books, and I learned how to play the piano and clarinet. My favorite books were Nancy Drew Mysteries.
Girls' sports were becoming popular when I was in high school. I chose cheerleading and loved every minute of it! My school's mascot was the Hot Dogs. And a fun fact about my high school gym...it was used to film the basketball game scenes in the movie Blue Chips!
After high school, I went to Purdue University. I majored in elementary education and took a children's literature course which taught me how a simple story with cute illustrations could be so endearing! Maybe a sign of things to come! I joined Alpha Xi Delta sorority, made some amazing life-long friends, and became a die-hard Boilermaker!
After graduation, I moved to Wisconsin and became a Packers, Brewers, and Bucks fan. I met my husband Tom at a softball game. We have two beautiful daughters, Kate and Kristi. I loved reading books with the girls. This is when my writing journey began.
After a gazillion rejection letters, my first story was published in Hob-Nob! I received two free copies of the magazine for my hard work, But my name was finally in print! This was followed by sales of The Noblest of the Lilies to Children's Digest, then Hoops, and Belly Flops and Gutter Balls to Highlights for Children.
I am a Youth Services Library Associate. I plan story times, manage collections, run a LEGO Club, and organize book clubs. It's awesome to be surrounded by amazing books and wonderful children who love to read!
